From your computer's 3.5 mm headphone socket. For better sound, we recommend an audio interface.

  • Pioneer DJM-V10-LF USB A (USB-B) → computer USB: USB-B to USB-C, or USB-B to USB-A
  • Pioneer DJM-V10-LF MASTER1 (XLR): leave empty, or turn its level fully down.
  • Computer sound out → powered monitors: 3.5 mm jack to two XLR, or 3.5 mm jack to two jack (¼"), or 3.5 mm jack to two RCA
  • Pioneer DJM-V10-LF PHONES A (6.35 mm / 3.5 mm) → headphones

Your gear

Club mixer (with CDJs, turntables or a controller)

Playing vinyl? Plug your turntables into the mixer as usual: your partner hears your records through it. BPM, key and the shared waveform need digital players. Your partner comes in on one channel of your mixer, so a two-channel mixer leaves you one deck; with three or four channels you can mix between two decks.

Supported

  1. Download: AlphaTheta's support page (alphatheta.com/en/support/ → Firmware and driver updates)
  2. On a Mac or Windows, download the DJM-V10 audio driver from AlphaTheta's support page (alphatheta.com/en/support/ → Firmware and driver updates). The Setting Utility comes with it.
  3. Before you install: turn the mixer off, unplug its USB cable and quit your other apps. You'll need your computer's admin password.
  4. Open the downloaded file and follow the steps, then plug the mixer back in.
  5. Open the DJM-V10 Setting Utility (in your apps, under Pioneer). Click the MIXER OUTPUT tab, and under Mixer Audio Output set USB1/2 to MIX(REC OUT).
  6. macOS 27: AlphaTheta: "We're currently reviewing the compatibility of our software and hardware with the iOS 27/iPadOS 27/macOS Golden Gate 27. Please delay updating to iOS 27/iPadOS 27/macOS Golden Gate 27 until we confirm compatibility."
  7. Connect this computer to the DJM's USB A port (or B), and turn your partner's channel's input selector to that same letter. A and B are the mixer's two USB ports, not pairs.
  8. Plug your speakers into this computer or an audio interface, not the DJM's master out.
  9. At Your sound in and out: under Your mix, pick the DJM-V10 with Input channels USB1/2. Under Your partner, pick the DJM-V10 with Channels for their channel: USB1/2 for CH1, 3/4 for CH2, 5/6 for CH3, 7/8 for CH4, 9/10 for CH5.

Connect your Mac to your stack

  • Powered speakers: run a cable from your Mac's output (or your audio interface's outputs) straight into the speakers.
  • An amp and speakers: run the same cable into the amp's input. The amp drives your speakers as usual.
  • Please don't plug your speakers into your mixer's outputs. Your Mac plays the right sound at every point of a handover. Where you need high-quality sound for a live audience, we recommend an external audio interface: see our list, at a range of qualities and prices. Not Bluetooth or AirPlay: they add too much delay.
  • Headphones: in your mixer's headphone socket, to cue as usual.
  • To keep your master out plugged in too, use a monitor switch: a small monitor controller with a source switch, or a little mixer, with your master out on one input and your Mac on the other. In a session, pick your Mac only: both at once plays your own sound twice, a moment apart.
  • To check, in your first session: while you play, your track should sound once and clean. Once your partner has taken over, your speakers should play their set. Nothing of them: your speakers are on your master out. Your own track doubled while you play: both are connected.

Partner's fader (optional)

  • In Settings → MIDI Learn, learn your partner's channel fader, with your mixer's MIDI on.

Your software

None (CDJs, turntables or standalone)

In a set, you'll see these buttons and messages:

  • READY · Set starts in · Handover · Accept handover · Partner mixed out · Fader up
  • You have control. Press Partner mixed out when you're in; your partner can stop their track.
  • Handover complete. Keep your track playing until your partner mixes you out.
  • Your partner has mixed you out. You can stop your track now.
  • Your partner's fader is down. Push it up before you Accept.

Your internet

Use a wired connection if you can: an Ethernet cable from your computer to your router. Wi-Fi drops out more often, and a dropout can be heard in the set.

Upload speed: 5 Mbps or more, or quality may drop. The app checks both uploads when you link. If you have a slower upload, your partner's recording quality may be lower. If a connection slows during the set, the full-quality recording needs time to finish after you leave, up to 15 minutes; anything it can't finish by then is at the live sound's quality.

How a set sounds depends on both DJs' internet connections, which we don't control. We can't promise a connection will be good enough, so try a short set together first.
