Beta
Beta testers
DJ back 2 back is in beta, and everyone who uses it now is a beta tester. It works, but some things will break. This page says what the beta is, what we hope you'll do, and how to tell us what you find.
Beta testers who help with error reports and ideas for improvements will receive complimentary access for a limited period after subscriptions start.
What the beta is
- Free during the beta, with no limit on sessions. We'll tell you about plans and prices well before the beta ends, and your login and profile stay.
- A Mac app in beta, and a Windows app in early test. You need macOS 14.2 or later, or Windows 11 (64-bit).
- Sessions: in the beta, a session lasts up to an hour, and either of you can leave whenever you like. When the hour's up, you're both told, and you get 2 minutes to finish your track. It runs from the set's start, once you've both pressed READY.
- Places: the beta has a limited number of places. Once they're taken, new accounts go on a waiting list. You can log in and set up your profile and your gear, but you can't link up or go on Live until a place opens. Places go in the order people joined, and we email you when yours is ready.
- Recording and going live: on a Mac, you can record your set and go live. Each happens only if you both agree. The Windows test doesn't record or go live yet.
- What does "Streaming behind" mean? Your stream runs a little behind your set, so every handover sounds smooth to your listeners. The app shows how far behind as Streaming behind. Each handover uses a little of that time, and longer booked sets start further behind. You don't need to do anything: the app looks after it, and your recording is never affected. If anything sounds wrong with your stream, please tell us with Report a problem.
- Free-text chat and bios: only between DJs who've shown they're 18 or over. See below.
- Where: new sign-ups aren't open yet in a few countries and one US state. See Where we operate.
- It's a beta. Some sets won't go to plan. Try it before you rely on it for a set that matters.
What we hope you'll do
- Play real sets. Link up with a DJ you know, or find someone on Live, and play the way you normally would. Every controller, mixer, DJ software and internet connection it meets shows us something we can't test ourselves.
- Answer the questions after a set. The app asks "B2B again another
time?", and after some sets two more, both optional:
- How did your set go?
- Any issues, or ideas to improve the app or website?
- Report problems. Use Report a problem: it's in the Help links at the foot of our pages, and in the app under Settings, then Account, then Help. When the app shows an error, press Report: the form opens with the app's version and the error code filled in.
- Send us ideas, not only bugs. We want to hear what would make it better: a setting you missed, a step that took too long, words that confused you, something you'd use every set. Put it in the after-set question's second box, or email support@djb2b.com.
What to report and what would be useful
The more you tell us, the faster we can fix it. In Report a problem:
- What you did: the steps, in order, from the start.
- What happened: what you saw or heard, and anything the app said. If it showed an error code (a letter, a dash and three numbers), put it in Error code.
- What you expected: what should have happened instead.
- How often: every time, sometimes, or once.
- Your gear and software: your controller or mixer, your DJ software and its version, and your computer. Your gear is filled in from your account and the app: check it, and tick This is what I was using when it happened. Type in your operating system, as we never fill that in.
- Your connection: cable or Wi-Fi, and any VPN.
- The app's log: tick Include my app log and attach the newest
djb2b-<date>.jsonlfile. To find it, open Settings in the app, then Account, and choose Show the app's log in Finder (File Explorer on Windows), under Help. Or go there yourself:- On a Mac: in Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and enter
~/Library/Application Support/djb2b-app/. - On Windows: enter
%APPDATA%\djb2b-app\in File Explorer's address bar.
- On a Mac: in Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and enter
- One problem per report. Two problems go in two reports.
Why free-text chat needs an age check
Free-text chat lets you type to your partner before and during a set. If either of you isn't age verified, you have the quick messages. Verification also lets you complete your biography. Your messages go between your two apps, encrypted. We don't see them or keep them, so we can't check them. That's why free-text chat is only open between DJs who've both shown they're 18 or over and both turned it on.
During the beta, you can show you're 18 or over on your account page, under Free-text chat. With both ways open, you choose:
- With a credit card: Stripe checks your card on its own page. Nothing is charged, but debit and prepaid cards can't be used. Your bank asks you to confirm it's you.
- With your ID: Stripe checks a photo of your ID and a selfie, then deletes them both. It's free.
- Either way, we keep only that you passed, which way, and the date. We never keep your date of birth, your ID, your selfie or your card's details.
- You choose. Turn free-text chat on or off at any time on your account page. Either of you can turn it off.
What you get
- Complimentary access for a limited period after subscriptions start, if you've helped with error reports and ideas.
- Early access. You play with each new feature as soon as its update is out.
- A say in what gets built. Your reports, answers and ideas go to the people building DJ back 2 back, and they help decide what we fix and build next.
- Free sessions while the beta runs.
