Audio first.
Audio is our number one priority. Here's the quality you get, and who sets it.
Live, between you and your partner. You hear each other's full mix, in stereo, through your own gear, as it plays. It's set up for music, not voice.
Your recording. Recordings: CD quality and above where internet speeds allow (typically 5 Mbps upload and above), unless a lower-quality track or lower-bitrate hardware is used. Each of you gets your own recording of the whole set, saved on your Mac. For the best recording, use a wired connection: see Your internet.
The stream. When you go live, the app sends your set to OBS, and your streaming platform sets the quality your listeners hear.
Why the stream and the recording differ. A recording is a file you keep, so nothing has to be squeezed out of it. A stream has to reach every listener at once, on phones, on mobile data and on busy Wi-Fi. So streaming platforms compress the sound to keep it playing without breaks. Each platform sets its own quality, and no app can go past it. Your recording keeps what the stream can't.
On a Mac. Recording and going live are on the Mac app. The Windows test doesn't record or go live yet.
